This 32-acre park offers plenty of amenities to cater to visitors of all ages. You can enjoy the large fishing pond, walking trail shaded by towering trees, and a well-equipped community center for indoor activities.
Families can relish the mini-golf course and playgrounds for the little ones. With picnic areas, pavilions, and a beautiful natural setting, it’s the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, a day of fishing, or a relaxing family outing. Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail

Cullen Park, located in Katy, Texas north of I-10, is a sprawling park that offers a wealth of outdoor amenities and recreational opportunities. Spanning over 9,800 acres, this park has scenic walking trails, a serene fishing lake, and abundant open spaces for picnics and relaxation.
The park is our favorite for birdwatching and wildlife watching, with numerous opportunities to spot native species in their natural habitat. Its well-maintained playgrounds, pavilions, and sports facilities make it a great place to spend a day outdoors for families. Cullen Park’s blend of natural beauty and modern amenities ensures a delightful outdoor experience for all Katy residents who visit this park.
Exploration Park
Exploration Park is hands down the best park in Katy to take your kids. This huge park has plenty of play areas and equipment for kids of all ages. You will find a variety of swings, slides, and plenty of things for the kids to explore. Kids can have a great time running, climbing, rolling and jumping in the park.
Older kids enjoy this park more and they can easily spend hours running around. The play area is not well-suited for toddlers and younger kids. The pavilion here is first come first serve so come early to get some tables/chairs. The park also has bathrooms nearby.
Callegari Park
Callegari Park is an underrated park that is often skipped by Katy area families. It is tucked between quiet neighborhoods and can be slightly hard to find. This park has 3 different playgrounds for different ages, a large gazebo with several picnic tables and bbqs, as well as an exercise pavilion for seniors. The best part? It has shaded play areas – perfect for Katy summers.
For those interested in hiking, the park has a long hiking path. The trail is beautifully landscaped and passes along small ponds. You will also find benches and picnic tables along the trail. The only downside is that there are no bathrooms nearby. The park closes at sunset so plan your trip accordingly.
Rick Rice Park
Rick Rice Park is a charming 10-acre green oasis south of I-10 near Westgreen Blvd. It offers a great walking trail alongside water features, ponds, and fountains. This well-maintained park also has plenty of birds and animals to keep young ones busy watching them. The park also has soccer fields.
The highlight of the park is the Barry J, Kaplan Pedestrian Bridge which connects Mason Creek Hike and Bike Trail to Rick Rice Park. Our kids love running over the bridge and taking in its views. The bridge looks absolutely gorgeous at sunset.
One caveat – the creek in the park is said to have alligators, so be cautious especially when the water level is high. Rick Rice Park is a gorgeous place to take photoshoots in Katy, Texas.
Willow Fork Park
Willow Fork Park is a great park located between Falcon Landing subdivision and Cinco Ranch High School. It’s pet-friendly and kid-friendly with a small fun and interesting play area. The park also has a disc golf course that is popular with families.
The park is blooming with wildflowers in spring and even has a charming butterfly garden. Come in spring to fall and you can see the butterflies hovering around. Our family also loves the walking trail at Willow Fork Park. While waking, biking, or jogging you can enjoy the nice scenery and go through different wildlife habitats.
Fort Bend M.U.D. 124 Recreation Park
This small public park is located within a neighborhood and could be easily mistaken for a community park! It has a small parking lot that fits about 8 to 10 cars and can be full on weekends and in the evening. However, if you come on a weekday morning or afternoon, you can easily find space here. Is the trip worth the effort? Yes! The park has an excellent play area for small kids.
The park has separate play areas for toddlers and kids under 5 as well as another large area for K-6th grade. In addition to the swings, slides, climbing and spinning equipment, the park also has musical instruments that delight children of all ages. You will find drums and electric keyboard! Our kids love going to this Katy park for a fun time.
VFW Park
VFW Park is a cozy, beautiful and well-kept park that is almost a secret in the city of Katy. The park big mature oak trees as well as shaded picnic tables, making it perfect for a hot summer day. The walking trail is pretty wide and loops around the kids play area. The park is mostly not-crowded and great to take young kids. The city of Katy hosts fall campouts at VFW Park every year.
Katy Heritage Park
This Katy area park also doubles up as a museum – in fact, one of the best museums in Katy, Texas. Katy Heritage Park has five historic homes that are open for tours on the first weekend of every month. Not interested in history? The park is also great for just walking and enjoying the scenery of the historic buildings.
Malcolm E. Beckendorff Family Park
Dog-friendly? Check. Kid-friendly? Check. Covered picnic tables? Check. Malcolm E. Beckendorff Family Park is a small, beautiful park that has all the essentials for a fun day out. The play area is small enough to easily keep an eye on kids. We often come here when Mary Jo Peckham Park and Katy City Park is packed and crowded.
