But Conroe is much more than the lake. Explore it’s historic downtown area, check out the charming shops, and try the cafes and eateries. Discover the beauty of the outdoors at the W.G. Jones State Forest, offering hiking trails and birdwatching opportunities. For a cultural experience, visit the Crighton Theatre or the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County.
Bellville

Come summer and New Braunfels is our favorite day trip ever. Start your day tubing or kayaking on the crystal-clear Comal or Guadalupe Rivers in New Braunfels, known for its refreshing waters and scenic beauty. You can easily rent tubes from the local suppliers and also get return shuttles.
After a leisurely float, explore Gruene, a historic district filled with charming shops, live music venues, and Texas’ oldest dance hall. Savor a delicious meal at one of the local eateries, then soak in the rich history as you stroll along the streets lined with preserved 19th-century buildings. It’s a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and cultural exploration for a memorable day.
Brenham

Next visit the iconic Blue Hole Regional Park, known for its crystal-clear swimming holes and scenic trails. Art lovers can explore the Wimberley galleries or catch a show at the EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens. If you’re into nature, Jacob’s Well Natural Area offers a captivating underwater cave. Lake Houston Wilderness Park
Just a short drive away from Katy, you will find Lake Houston Wilderness Park – a hidden gem! This serene natural oasis is a favorite with our family. The park spans over 4,786 acres and is the perfect escape into the wilderness.
The park features a network of well-maintained hiking and biking trails, each catering to different skill levels. The Peach Creek Loop Trail, spanning 4.8 miles, takes you through dense forests and alongside scenic waterways. You can also enjoy canoeing and kayaking at the park.
The lake is also a haven for anglers. Cast your line and try your luck at catching a variety of fish species, including catfish, bass, and crappie. Keep an eye out for deer, armadillos, raccoons, and a plethora of bird species that live here.
Austin
Austin is the vibrant state capital of Texas. It is more of a weekend destination but can also be seen on a day trip if you want to take family and friends. The city has a very hip and trendy vibe and feels very modern for the most part.

We have kept San Antonio for the last – just because you can day trip here does not mean you should! The Alamo City might just be 2.5 hours away but it has enough attractions to keep you busy for good 2-3 days.
